1. Gather audience in one area
2. Collect cellphones. Explain that they interfere with the sound system
3. Ask guest to not sit on seats with an X mark as cast members sits there.
4. Ask guest not to touch any props beside them.
5. Give guest glow sticks and tell them to only break to use it at the end of the show during Xanadu. Cast members remind them when to use them.
6. Very important: Keep feet, rags etc. out of aisles. Cast members are skating around them and this could be dangerous.
7. Enjoy yourself and clap loud. Everyone is watching you!
8. No standing during the performance so use bathroom now.
9. Usher then to seats 15 minutes before show starts (at 7:50 pm)

Theaterrific!: Five Facts You Should Know About Xanadu the Musical and its Manila Production:

"Number ONE: The musical is more of a parody, rather than an adaptation of the 1980 movie starring Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly.

Number TWO: Kira, the lead character, has this exaggerated Australian accent. Why? Since it’s a parody, they’re trying to spoof Olivia Newton-John who plays the lead in the movie. Newton-John is an Australian.

Number THREE: Aside from Sonny Malone’s short shorts, the musical is also short with just one act.

Number FOUR: Six actors will be on skates including Kira and Sonny. This means a lot of dancing on skates! Exciting!

Number FIVE: This will be Chari Arespacochaga’s return AS A STAGE ACTOR since Dogeaters in 2007. She plays Melpomene, one of the evil women, and, for those who are asking, her role is not black, okay?! Not because she's belting, it already means that the role should be black. (And you don’t ask questions like 'is your role black?' Because aside from that being a nonsense question, you’ll sound a little racist. :-) I told you I'm nice, I even give advices to other people, oh!)"

An Exciting Cast for Xanadu

Atlantis Productions is cooking up yet another amazing show, this time with musical theater aficionados and curious viewers being brought back to the bright lights and raucous sounds of the ’80s in Xanadu The Musical.

Guaranteed to be as colorful and upbeat as a rollerskating disco, the production has a whirling dervish of an ensemble cast, with director Bobby Garcia at the helm. He shares, “I’m thrilled to be directing Xanadu. It is a musical I was instantly smitten with when I saw it in New York in 2007. I suspect it will be one of the zaniest rehearsal periods I have had and I look forward to the fun with this amazing cast!”

Rachel Alejandro, who endeared herself to theatergoers with her dual portrayals of Kate Monster and Lucy the Slut in Avenue Q is welcoming what is apparently the most demanding role she’s ever tackled, this time as Kira in Xanadu. She’ll be singing, dancing, and rollerskating to the famous Olivia Newton-John and Electric Light Orchestra tunes.

Felix Rivera, considered Philippine theater’s “golden boy” (he led the cast of four musicals this year alone!) is more than prepared for his latest demanding role, this time as male lead Sonny.

Also in the musical are equally passionate and fiery performers certain to keep your eyes fixated on the theater stage: Noel Trinidad as Danny, Chari Arespacochaga and Yael Pineda playing Melpomene and Calliope (the show’s “Evil Women”), respectively, and Anthony Ong, Glen Llanes, Alys Serdenia and Bea Garcia portraying the Greek Muses.

Once more, two recognizable names and faces in musical theater face off in this whimsical, musical love story, and they are none other than Rachel Alejandro, portraying the dual roles of Clio and Kira, and Felix Rivera as Sonny.

Here they are as they share about the preparations they each have been going through to make Xanadu The Musical an enthralling show, and their thoughts on following dreams, the things that inspire them, the people who motivate them, and lessons learned from starting out in showbiz and theater.

How did you prepare for your role in Xanadu the Musical? And how do you plan to make your role fresh for your audience to get into the ‘80s vibe, which is the very era of the story?

Rachel: Although the setting is in the ‘80s, I think the songs in the musical, some of Olivia Newton-John’s biggest hits, are timeless. People of any age will enjoy them and be able to sing along think both my lola or anyone as young as my youngest teen-age sister would appreciate the humor. I don’t have to do anything special but be an effective part of the story-telling.

Pop singer and theater artist Rachel Alejandro is gearing up for the most demanding performance of her life — roller skating to Olivia Newton-John and Electric Light Orchestra songs in Atlantis Productions’ upcoming Broadway musical comedy Xanadu which opens at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, Makati City on Sept. 3.

Rachel captured audience’s hearts in the dual role of Kate Monster/Lucy The Slut in Avenue Q and now takes on the lead role in Xanadu. She has started her skating classes and is supervised by choreographer Cecile Martinez and skating supervisor Anthony Ong, who studied skating in New York with the Broadway production’s skating instructor Lezly Zeiring. Rachel says, “The biggest challenge here is the roller skating by far. I’m not as well-coordinated as some of you might imagine. But I am quite excited as it is such a fun musical people of all ages can enjoy!”

Xanadu is a 90-minute musical comedy with a book by Douglas Carter Beane, music and lyrics by Jeff Lynne and John Farrar, based on the 1980 cult classic of the same name which was, in turn, inspired by the 1974 Rita Hayworth film Down to Earth.

The story of the whimsical and comic musical focuses on the Greek muse, Clio, who descends from Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach, California in 1980 on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest creation of his life - a roller disco. But when Clio, disguised as an Australian roller girl named Kira, falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation, and Clio risks eternal banishment to the underworld.

The musical opened on Broadway in 2007. It has earned an Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Musical and a Drama Desk Award for Best Book. It was nominated for Tony Awards for Best Musical and Best Book.

Xanadu features songs made popular by Olivia Newton-John in the film of the same title, including MAGIC, SUDDENLY, SUSPENDED IN TIME, HAVE YOU EVER BEEN MELLOW, and the hit title track, XANADU.

With an abundance of pop songs from the 80's, a hilarious and light-hearted comic script, and some amazing roller skating, Xanadu is a hilarious, roller skating, musical adventure about following your dreams despite the limitations others set for you.

It will star theater and recording actress, Rachel Alejandro, who was also seen in Atlantis' RENT and AVENUE Q, as Clio/Kira; and the current golden boy of Philippine Theater, Felix Rivera from Atlantis' AVENUE Q and SPELLING BEE productions, as Sonny.
